Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need a tutor?
The short answer to this question is: Because every student needs a tutor! In countries like Korea, China, and Japan most students go to after school study programmes to help them get higher marks in their classes. Unfortunately, many students in Canada see tutoring as a punishment or sign that there's something wrong with them.
The reality in most classrooms today is that teachers must balance classroom material so that the strong students donít get too bored and the weaker students understand just enough to pass. Of course, this is not good for either of them.
Tutors help the strong students learn the material teachers just arenít able to teach in the classroom. These students need tutors because they want to know what they don't know. Tutors help these students win academic awards or pass entrance tests to private schools or universities where the competition is tough.
Students struggling with their school work need the personalized attention their classroom teachers just donít have time to give them. Tutors not only help these students with current assignments, but fill in any gaps in studentsí knowledge and pre-teach material their classroom teachers havenít covered yet. Most importantly, tutors build up studentsí confidence in their ability to understand whatís being taught in the classroom.

Where are you located?
The Canadian Academic Success School is at 5308A Yonge Street, Suite 1.
Thatís 2 blocks north of North York Centre subway station, or about 4 blocks
south of Finch. See
us on the map.
Why do I have to go to 5308A Yonge Street when other tutors will come to my home?
We can send a tutor to your home if youíd like, but we add a surcharge of $5 per visit in the city and $10 or more per visit for locations outside of the city.
However, we think itís better if you come to our location to study. First of all, students do not focus or concentrate as well in their own home as they do in a professional classroom. No matter how considerate everyone else tries to be, trying to study at home offers too many distractions.
Moreover, even professional tutors cannot always predict what studentsí needs will be on any given day, but must be able to adapt lessons to those needs. In our school, tutors have a library of books and other resources that they can use immediately to help students. These resources are not available in studentsí homes.
Not only that, in-home tutors often arrive tired and frustrated from the commute, and need some time to settle into teaching.
What are your rates?

Please feel free to contact us so that we can talk about your specific needs.
Can I get a discount?
- If you are a family member or friend of a current or former student, you will receive 10% off our hourly tutoring or scheduled class rates.
- Siblings who want a semi-private class together, pay only the single rateóthatís like a two-for-one value! Three siblings can study together for the price of two, etc.
- If you book 8 or more hours in a four-week period, you will receive 10% off our hourly tutoring or scheduled class rates.
- If you book 16 or more hours in a four-week period, you will receive 20% off our hourly tutoring or scheduled class rates.
- You can also combine the family & friends discount with the monthly rate discount for even more savings.
Also, remember: Other tutors may charge a lower hourly than we do, but the cheapest hourly rate is not always the best value. So, by choosing the cheapest tutor, you are not only wasting your money, but also your valuable time!

same curriculum, books and teaching style used in their classrooms, and branch

Do you give any tests to assess the students?
for tutoring, a student is given a learning style assessment to determine what
teaching methods the tutor should use to assist the student best. ESL students
are also given an placement to test to determine their level of English
proficiency. Placement tests in math and other subjects can be given if
the studentís level is not known.
During the first tutoring session, tutors will also use a number of testing
methods to determine the areas in which the student needs help.
